Sunday Night – Sunset Music

We’re officially in full swing.  Sunday nights we’re having music on the patio by John Tercyak.  He sings & plays guitar & fiddle.  Really enjoyable.

Check him out at www.johntercyak.com (Did I mention another beautiful sunset?)

Finally, the Island Explorer is running

The Island Explorer is a FREE bus that runs around the Island and Acadia Park.  It started running today and coincidentally we had the day off.  We ended up in Barnard at the Thurston Lobster Pound for lunch.

Amazingly, we found some of the smoked meat from our party in Gretna in the freezer.  Great dinner – thanks again to Mike.

Another beautiful sunset.

Yes, sometimes we don’t eat lobster

KOA had a party for the workampers last night at the local micro-brewery.  Smoked meat and beer and good company.

Lobsta’ Dinner

Had lobster dinner at the home of a local couple we met in town.  Great food, great people.  Wes was telling us about his Vietnam experience – see story below.

Glenn Storer finds way to avoid returning to South Vietnam after serving 1/2 tour of duty.
Glenn Storer’s look alike brother Wesley returns to South Vietnam in Glenn’s place after 2 weeks leave; Wesley passes for Glenn for week [Wesley STORER - tells of deciding with Glenn to try switch; Glenn somewhere between Virginia and Florida; never got into combat before discovered; did it to keep brother out of trouble.] Army deciding what to do; Wesley in voluntary detention.
Mrs. Carlton STORER – says Wesley did it for brother; willing to risk death, injury for him; didn’t think Wesley would do it; didn’t think he could handle situatio

Glenn turned self in when learned brother discovered; Glenn returned to South Vietnam unit; Wesley to be returned to United States when South Vietnam grants visa.

Sunday… more free tours.

Saturday our shift ended at about 2 pm, so we decided to head to town and enjoy another free tour.  We chose the lobster and seal cruise.  We enjoyed it – got close to the island so we could actually see the seals without binoculars.  Went to a local bar and had dijon mussels – really, really good.  We start talking to a real local and asked where locals go for lobsta’.  Needless to say, he said “home”.  Being the wise a** I am, I asked when?  Short story long, we’re going to their house Monday night for dinna’ (or is it dinner?).

Today (Sunday), we’re not working.  Headed back to town for another free tour and choose the puffin and whale cruise.  Saw lots of birds and seals – yet another couple of lighthouses – but alas no whales.  We’ll just have to try again.  We came home and tried making our own mussels with dijon.  Good, but we still need practice.

We have Monday off – so more to come.

Worked the night shift the last two days, so we’ve been exploring more of the island.

By the sea, by the beautiful sea

Had Tuesday off so we did a nature cruise, then went on a lobster tour boat.  Stopped in downtown Bar Harbor for a beer and some mussels.  Came home and steamed mussels – they were good, but we’re going to try other recipes to see if we can do better.

Wednesday, cloudy and very cool.  Went for a drive north of here.  Very pretty.
