Balloon Launch – Third time’s the charm

We actually helped launch a balloon this morning.  Then we chased it.  Quite fun.  Tonight is another glow and tomorrow we’ll hopefully launch again.

National Monuments

There’s a balloon festival in Mancos this weekend and we are volunteering.  Today, we arrived at 6:30 am.  Balloons did not go up because of rain and associated mud.  So, we decided to visit Canyon of the Ancients and Hovenweep National Monuments.  Hovenweep was interesting – stone dwellings build on top of the mesa (rather than alcoves like Mesa Verde).

We’ll be heading back to the ranch for awhile and then back to Mancos for more balloon activities.

San Juan Highway

Thursday, we decided to drive the San Juan Highway and enjoy the fall folliage. The San Juan Skyway is one of the scenic byways in the Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway  System. It forms a 236 mile (379 km) loop in the southwest part of the US traversing the heart of the San Juan Mountains.

Company

Carrol, Eric and Summer (Omaha KOA) were in Durango this weekend to visit with Lou, Lynda and us.  A great time was had by all.  Fortunately, they were able to go on a stagecoach ride.

We’ll Be Drivin’ Four Big Horses…

Eric took the workampers on a stage coach ride down to the Mancos River (about 7 miles).   Road got really rough and it made you wonder how people went cross country in a stage coach.

We all got to drive the stage coach.  WOW – what an experience.  We crossed the river which was interesting.  It took a lot of work for Eric to get the horses to go through the water.  It took a lot of work for us to hang on.
