After an enjoyable weekend in Omaha, we’re back in Branson.  Left about 11 am – about a 6 hour drive – an easy trip during the day.

Home again

We left New Orleans around 8 am.  Drove straight through, with a quick stop at the Vicksburg National Military Park.  Interesting, would like to go back when we have more time.  Arrived home around 9 pm.  Stinky was glad to see us.

Vicksburg National Military Park preserves the site of the American Civil War Battle of Vicksburg, waged from May 18 to July 4, 1863. The park, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Delta, Louisiana, also commemorates the greater Vicksburg Campaign, which preceded the battle. Reconstructed forts and trenches evoke memories of the 47-day siege that ended in the surrender of the city. Victory here and at Port Hudson gave the United States control of the Mississippi River.

Nola – Park It – Saturday July 18

We went on a National Park tour of New Orleans.  Afterwards, we stopped and bought a growler of beer and a muffulta – came back to the hotel and ate by the pool.  In the afternoon, we went to a JAZZ presentation at New Orleans National History Park, which was very good.  Stopped at Fat Tuesdays for a drink, walked around for a while and back to the hotel.

We decided to eat at the same place we ate Friday night.  Not as good, but still a great meal.  We walked around the French Quarter for awhile then called it an early night.

New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park is a U.S. National Historical Park in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana, near the French Quarter. It was created in 1994 to celebrate the origins and evolution of jazz, America’s most widely-recognized indigenous music.

Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve protects significant examples of the rich natural and cultural resources of Louisiana’s Mississippi River Delta region. At 419 Decatur Street, New Orleans, in the historic French Quarter, is the park’s visitor center, interpreting the history of New Orleans and the diverse cultures of Louisiana’s Mississippi Delta region. The park headquarters is also located in New Orleans.

N’awlins – Celebrating our 25th

Celebrating our 25th!!!

Left Branson Thursday night about 9 pm with the idea of driving a few hours then stopping.  Couldn’t find a motel so we drove all night.  Arrived in the “Big Easy” about 9 am – too early to check-in to the hotel, but we were able to park the car and store our luggage.

Went to the Cafe Du Monde for breakfast.  Then back to the hotel, we took a quick nap out by the pool before heading out.  Had beers at the Cresent City Microbrew, then a catfish po-boy overlooking Bourbon street.  Back to the hotel for another nap before hitting Bourbon Street.  Walked and walked – had a drink, then had the best dinner (Louisiana Bistro) we’ve had in a long, long time.

Branson KOA – Saturday July 11

We saw two more shows today.  We’re having a hard time finding GOOD shows that we haven’t seen. Saturday we saw Diamond Image and Homestead Pickers.

I’m working on Sunday.  Monday is our twenty-fifth anniversary.  We both are working.  We are heading to New Orleans for the weekend to celebrate.

Diamond Image - Experience the Feel of Neil” in this 70 minute non-stop show that tells Neil Diamond’s life through his songs. From the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, sing-along to favorites like “Cherry Cherry”, “Cracklin Rosie”, “America”, “Solitary Man”, “Play Me”, “Song Sung Blue”, “Sweet Caroline” and many many more.

Homestead Pickers - Are a collection of 4 seasoned entertainers, musicians, comedians, actors, storytellers and composers with many years of experience entertaining audiences both in Branson and the United States as well as tours of Ireland.   Their eclectic blend of fiddle, banjo, guitar, hammered dulcimer, pennywhistle and unique vocals depict the early days of American music, bluegrass, gospel and even some Irish tunes with humor unmatched by any other combination.

Branson KOA – Friday July 10th

We haven’t seen any shows this week until today.  It’s getting harder and harder to find a show we haven’t seen.  We saw two today (Friday) – Chicken House Opry and Brule and the American Indian Rock Opera.

The Chicken House Opry wasn’t  a very good show.  A few good laughs but not much more.

Brule and the American Indian Rock Opera was good, but after the first ten minutes every thing sounded the same.  Great dancing!

Chicken House Opry is an old fashioned opry show, featuring old country music, new songs and comedy, LOTS OF COMEDY.    Comedians Cajun Charlie LeBlanc, Rooster Red Beeker, Dean Greathouse and comediennes Lucy Jackson and Char Greathouse keep audiences laughing.

Brule and the American Indian Rock Opera - One of the top-selling Native American recording artists with more than one million cds sold worldwide Brule’ is making it’s first Branson appearance at the RFD TV Theatre! This show is sure to offer a powerful performance with a full theatrical production and a team of talented dancers performing with him. Brule’s long list of hits includes ‘All My Relations,’ ‘Spirit Horses,’ ‘And Justice For All,’ ‘Peace Is All Around Me,’ ‘Buffalo Moon,’ ‘Celebration of the Heart,’ ‘Stomp Dance,’ ‘The Chosen One,’ and so many more. The American Indian Rock Opera has been acclaimed by many as the most dynamic group of American Indian dancers on stage today.

Branson KOA – July 4th Weekend

Our friends, Al & Martha, came down from Omaha.  They arrived Friday afternoon.  We had pizza from the kampground, then went to see Shoji.  Saturday, we saw Roy Rogers Jr and Jim Stafford.  We drove around Branson – saw the lake and went to Dick’s 5&10.

We also ate at Mel’s Diner – know for the singing waiters (including Jason from American Idol) and waitresses.

Al & Martha left early Sunday morning – hopefully, they’ll have a dry ride home.
